Our Story

Yamba Hearts for Uganda was founded in 2014 with a simple but powerful vision: to create lasting change in underserved communities by empowering women, children, and youth through education, health initiatives, entrepreneurship, and technology access.

Registered as a community-based organization (WCBO/1625/14), we work directly with local communities in Mpigi District and beyond, ensuring our programs are culturally appropriate and sustainable.

The Growth of Yamba Hearts Center

The Yamba Hearts Center has grown steadily over the years thanks to the dedication of our team and the incredible support from individuals and partner organizations, including SOWE.

Here's how the center has developed:

2016–2019: 🧱 Laying the Foundation.

Charles, our co-founder, began producing bricks by hand. These bricks were later used to build all the permanent structures at the center.

2021: Basic Infrastructure Upgrades

💧 We installed electricity and a water tank to improve living standards at the center.
🏠 The main building was completed, featuring 4 bedrooms and a large gathering hall, which also serves as our workshop.

On the Enclosed Grounds (Donated by SOWE)

🍴 An outdoor kitchen was built
🚻 Two toilets and a running latrine were added for sanitation

Spring 2023: First Major Expansion

🏫 A new classroom block with three large classrooms was constructed to accommodate more learners and training activities.

Spring 2024: Expanding Capacity and Sustainability

🏫 A second classroom block (three more classrooms) was built.
🔋 Solar panels were installed on the main building to solve persistent power outages.
💧 A new 5,000-liter water tank was added for rainwater harvesting.
🪑 Classrooms were also equipped with furniture to improve the learning environment.

Spring 2025: Additional Facilities Added

🚽 Two new latrines were completed.
🪵 A four-room wooden classroom block was constructed to meet growing demand for space.
🌱 We also acquired additional land for school expansion and set up four temporary classroom structures on the new site.

With Deepest Gratitude

To everyone who has stood with us since the very beginning thank you. Your belief, encouragement, and sacrifice have been the quiet but powerful force behind everything we’ve built at Yamba Hearts for Uganda.

A special appreciation goes to our co-founder Kelse Blaise Konneda and the entire team in Michigan. From the early days of conversations and shared dreams to late-night calls filled with hope, your vision helped breathe life into this work. Together with our co-founder Mr. Ssegawa Charles, you didn’t just imagine a better future you worked to build it, brick by brick, girl by girl, life by life.

Your support has:

  • Kept girls in school who would otherwise have dropped out

  • Reduced poverty by equipping women and young mothers with skills and tools for self-reliance

  • Raised literacy levels by giving children in rural villages access to education

  • Restored dignity to girls and women through menstrual health programs

  • Brought light, clean water, and opportunity to a community that once felt forgotten

  • Inspired local leaders and volunteers to believe in the power of their own potential

But more than anything, you gave people a reason to hope again.

In Lwanga Village and the surrounding areas, the name "Yamba Hearts" means more than an organization it means someone cared. Someone showed up. Someone believed they were worth investing in.

We could never fully capture what your support has done. But from the heart of our team, our children, our women, our mothers, and our entire community: Thank you.

You’ve planted seeds that will keep growing long into the future.

With gratitude and love,
The Yamba Hearts for Uganda Family
